After almost a decade of musical career silence, Gianfranco Pescetti is set to release a brand new electronic album in a week or so. And let me tell you, if you enjoy the genre as much as I have lately, you’ll be wanting to listen to Daystar Nocturnal as soon as it drops on January 25th.
Take a listen to his recent single, Capraia, below and lets us know your thoughts in the comments.
My favorite song off this impending ten track release is Clownspunk, a biting borderline infectious squeak of a song that soars with a beast of a background beat, but Capraia has some golden moments as well. The sliding drums, honky seemingly out of place electro-horns, and overall late 90’s Playstation soundtrack style of sound really have a haunting effect. The reverb and delay are used well, helping to encapsulate a spooky yet chill vibration that sticks with you after listening. It is no wonder this song is doing so well critically and with electronic music fans considering it sounds like it was recorded almost thirty years ago for a Final Fantasy bootleg EP.
And what further makes this a relic of peak 3D video game savvy is Pescetti’s noble ability to create atmosphere on top of atmosphere, seemingly with ease. The horns go from a bit off to a complete highlight on the track… and then you are hit with these wild, somewhat adlib-like sounds of what I can only assume a digital dolphin, that turn this single into something special. this guy really knows how to create mood and feeling through a minimal approach to absolutist soundscapes.
“I’d like to exist at the intersection of both light and dark, and that is how I hear the music. It’s within this duality that the tension—the push and pull—can be found” – Gianfranco Pescetti
For my money, he certainly achieves this duality, and in the post-Skrillex peak brostep age of beautifully vomited solar flare beats, it is refreshing to hear an artist find the sacred pleasure in making noise with a standard, follow-the-beat and move your feet sound design.
If you are an electronic music fan, definitely give Gianfranco Pescetti a listen. Daystar Nocturnal is definitely worth the ten year wait.
