Every time B Free pops up on the news feed, there’s something new to look out for. Having performed all across Detroit and beyond, sharing the stage with talents both local and international, B Free’s consistent energy and approachable demeanor have served him well thus far. As of 12am today we’ve been gifted with the latest development in this promising young career, coming in the form of the new single, “Platinum Plus.”
Over background ambience, the beat adds in metallic melodics along with familiar calling cards of contemporary rap, namely sharp snares and high hats accompanied by driving bass notes. The artist seems at home on the beat, produced by longtime collaborator Bert; the soft vocal additions contrast well with B Free’s delivery, adding emphasis to lines like: “Way to much to lose / So I ain’t losing out on nothin.”
Like many of modern hip hop’s best, B Free’s acknowledgement of vocal gymnastics is apparent. In the age of Young Thug and Travi$ Scott, cadence has become as important as lyrical vigor; however, B Free still stays true to the words that he speaks, without the ambiguous diction that plagues some of the new wave.
Having dropped Motor City Menace earlier this year, along with a string of performances that has turned heads across the city and beyond, it seems that B Free is gearing up for something special. Catch him tomorrow at the single release party for “Platinum Plus,” featuring performances by Curtis Roach, Jay Squared, Santana Davinci, and more.
