Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few seasons, ASOS has been making waves in the body love and body positive communities. This brand has been on a mission to highlight body diversity through the models and lack of over-editing images on its online retail shop. Think bodies with rolls and stretch marks, uneven skin and “non-flattering” poses normalized all over both the women and men sections of the site.
The latest wave by the brand is placing a Black, visibly plus woman in a gorgeous yellow bikini. The model is used in an unconventional way, modelling pieces often reserved for flat tummy having, predominantly white, “acceptably plus” models. This overt show of bodies that look like yours and mine, without editing and openness around stretch marks, back rolls and saggy boobs, caused quite the stir, bringing support from plus size shoppers across the board.
she’s so beautiful and seeing my body shape being represented as well makes me so happy 😭😭😭😭😭

Glad to see curve models are actually the sizes sold and not a size 12 wearing larger clothes. Thanks ASOS. https://t.co/OJbDkJG8LX

ASOS continues to lead the way in showcasing their clothing on a diverse range of body type and skin tones in a subtle, non-hype way that shows a genuine effort to create a change in the fashion culture. I can’t wait to see how this brand will continue smashing the game and showing every body deserves to dress well.
