Once a year, some of hip hop’s biggest faces come together in celebration of the industry’s hottest go-getters, and this year EMCEE Network was in the building.

The award show took place in Miami, FL for the first time ever, so it was only right to honor legend, “Uncle” Luke Campbell, with an incredible tribute. Some of Florida’s most notable artists such as DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Plies, T-Pain, Trina, and Trick Daddy, did it for the culture (of Miami), as they performed classics.

On top of performing and being nominated for a total of nine nods for the night, Khaled also held it down as host. As he received his recognition, he spread love, positivity and graced us with occasional appearances from our favorite, Asahd Khaled.

Although the DJ was a leading nominee, Kendrick Lamar and Cardi B were right in line with nine nods each. It came as no surprise as Cardi stood right at the finish line with the industry veterans as she took home Single of the Year, Hustler of the Year and Best New Artist. There was almost no one in sight who didn’t mouth the lyrics to her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 Hit, Bodak Yellow, when the New York rapper hit the stage with a sizzling performance.

Now, let’s be sure to note that Cardi won big Tuesday night. If she wasn’t on stage either performing, or accepting an award, the leader of the Bardi Gang was sitting alongside her Migos boo, Offset. The rapper was a fellow nominee and performer, as well.

The Bad & Boujee group, Playboi Carti and Yo Gotti also took the stage to perform, but at a hip hop award show, the cyphers make the night. Among the participating artists were Detroit’s very own, Kash Doll and Tee Grizzley, who put on for the city. Others included 6Lack, Ski Mask the Slump God, Denzel Curry, Lil Simz, Belly and more, who too had their chance to spit in this year’s cypher.

EMCEE caught up with some of the talent, performers and cypher participants during the pre-show on the green carpet. Check out the exclusive interviews below:
