BVNGS, born and raised in Rochester, New York, has been making her way into the industry since she was 9-years-old. In 2013, she signed to an independent label which led her to move to New York City. It was then she created the critically-acclaimed “Crush On You,” a song inspired by the late rapper, Notorious BIG’s voice on Lil Kim’s hit record of the same name. Within a few hours of its release, the demo was shared by hundreds of fans online. Since August of 2015, she has been mastering her debut EP, aptly titled “N/A”, which is set to release before the end of the year.

I got a chance to ask her a few questions, check it out below:

Where did your love for music come from?

My love for music is something I feel I was just born with music has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in my neighborhood and household there was always music everywhere I went. Leave the house playing music, hear music walking down the street, the cookouts playing music, it’s just always been around. I’ve always been that kid that knows every song on the radio—not so much nowadays but when I was younger. So one day I was in the third grade and they were doing open mic at a school dance some kid got up and did a little rap so I’m like that was trash let me go put some stuff together real quick. Mine was probably trash too but I had the crowd lit and it’s been unstoppable ever since.

How would you describe “your sound”?

Describing my sound has always been one of the hardest things for me because I really can’t describe it. Every record is a different cadence, almost different everything but it all still goes as a collective. Sometimes I have that OVO sound, sometimes I have that “gutta bitch” sound.

Tell us about the inspiration for your new song “SWAG”.

The inspiration for “SWAG “ came from the beat just making me feel fire. The beat literally made me feel myself. I just flowed with it. I kid you not I wrote this song in about an hour.

You’ve been working on your debut EP since 2015, what’s the process been like for you?

This process has been the longest most stressful process ever. I’ve been to so many studios, been through so many emotions, been stunted on by so many producers, traveled, been stood up even after I booked the session. It taught me a lot for sure I can’t wait to drop the next.

Can you tell us how many songs you got on the EP?

There’s 5 songs.

Is there a story behind it or is it a collection of different songs?

It’s just a collection of different songs. I originally had 7 but I took two off even though it’s just a collection of songs. These 5 songs blend and make more sense.

When can we expect the new EP?

By, on, or before December 4th.
