Pretty Crimes call themselves “genre fluid” when it comes to their style… and in this modern post-Zappa pre-2024 election warmongering identified politicized crowd, their upcoming album, Every Moment All at Once seems to encapsulate that undefinable and completely human description.

More than anything, I love the vocal work here. There is something very sincere within its bellows and haunted shrieks, blending with the guitar so successfully, I was surprised to discover they were a group born from covid-19 lockdown. However, my favorite song on this soon to be released album is “New Years,” a song that mixes early 2000’s indie with mid sixties Velvet Underground by way of Dinosaur Jr feel good melancholy.
“No one can help you now until you learn to love yourself” is simple and to the point, but the way the words are sung, devastating and instantly entertaining. If you had to listen to only one song on Pretty Crimes, I highly suggest this one!
“We call ourselves ‘genre-fluid’ since we also borrow from genres such as country, Motown, electronica, and more depending on the song” – Pretty Crimes.
“Knowing Silence” is a great song as well, one I hope you give a chance in just two weeks when Every Moment All At Once is finally released in early February. Burning through everything from Belle and Sebastian-style indie soundscapes to dream pop bedrock electronica, there is a delicate refined sound of 90s alt rock that Pretty Crimes has a strong handle on. It seems, with Every Moment All at Once, they plan to keep it that way. If you like The Pixies, try these guys out!
